A Christmas Message from Pastor

Behold – Words of Great JOY!    “The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light. Those who lived in a  land of deep darkness – on them light has shined…For a child has been born for us, a son given to us …and he is named Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace” (Isaiah 9:2 & 6)

Greetings on behalf of everyone at St. Matthew’s Hanover. We invite you to Come and See!  Come and Hear! Celebrate the Birth of our Lord this Christmas Season!

There is a story about a little boy who was leaving Christmas worship with his father. He paused at the manger outside the church, he looked at it, tilted his head for another angle, and then said to his dad, “It’s the same Jesus we had last year. Can’t we get a new Jesus?” The father smiled and knelt next to his son and said, “Son, we get the same Jesus every year. That’s how it works.” As 2018 will soon transition into 2019, we give thanks during the seasons of Advent and Christmas that Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and tomorrow. We rejoice that the same Jesus, the King, for whom we prepare during Advent and who at Christmas was born in a stable, who loved the outcasts and who ate with sinners, who died on the cross for our salvation, is the same Jesus who loves us and calls us and sends us as his disciples.

As we continue to serve this same Jesus in ever new and renewing ways, we offer our special thanks to all who make the German Advent Service, Christmas Eve and our Christmas 1 Lessons and Carols services so meaningful and beautiful!

We are a gifted, talented, and welcoming people here at St. Matthew’s!  The expressions of appreciation and gratitude felt and seen in so many warm greetings and gracious gifts has been received with humble appreciation.

A Blessed Christmas and Joyous New Year to All of You,

Pastor John

Join us on Sunday, December 30th at 10 am for our Lessons and Carols Service as we celebrate Jesus as our Saviour, who is Christ, the Lord!
